Denise is originally from San Diego and has aspired to return home to work as an ambulatory equine veterinarian. She earned her earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles. She went on to complete a combined Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (2015) and a Ph.D. (2016) at the University of California, Davis. She completed a rotating internship in equine primary care, surgery, and medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2017. Her primary interests include equine wellness, dentistry, preventative medicine, and imaging. She also has an interest in equine acupuncture that she hopes to pursue in the near future.
Growing up in a veterinary family, Denise has been around animals her entire life. She has been riding horses since the age of ten and solidified her interest in equine veterinary medicine during her time working as a technician in the Large Animal Clinic at the UC Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Her hobbies include horse riding, stand up paddle boarding, cooking, and exploring new places. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends and her two rescue pups Reno and Kali
